Chinese Medicine
Nausea and vomiting
Nausea that will not settle — in early pregnancy, during chemotherapy, or for no clear reason. Dr. Pan checks the cause first, then makes a plan.
Please bring a list of the medicines, supplements and herbs you take now. If you are having cancer treatment, bring your treatment schedule. Tell us if you are pregnant or could be.
First, check the cause
Long-lasting nausea has many causes: medicines, stomach problems, pregnancy, migraine, and more. Dr. Pan looks for the cause.
How it is treated
- Small sips and small, plain meals; avoiding smells and foods that set it off.
- Anti-nausea medicine, chosen to be safe for you.
- Acupuncture, or pressure on a point on the inner wrist. A long-established way to ease nausea, it works well for nausea from chemotherapy and after surgery, and many pregnant women feel clearly better.
- Chinese herbs, to settle the stomach and ease nausea.
How many visits
During chemotherapy, visits are often timed around each treatment. After a few visits, you and Dr. Pan look at how much better you are: less nausea, eating and drinking more.
Common questions
Can I use acupuncture with my anti-nausea medicine?
Yes — they work well together. Keep taking your medicine as prescribed; never stop it on your own.
