Chinese Medicine
Side effects of chemotherapy and radiation
Tiredness, nausea, numb hands and feet, a dry mouth, pain or hot flashes, during or after cancer treatment. Your oncologist leads your cancer care. Acupuncture works alongside, easing nausea, tiredness and numbness, and Chinese herbs support appetite and energy.
Please bring your treatment schedule, your latest blood counts, and a list of every medicine, supplement and herb you take.
How it is treated
- Your oncologist’s team treats side effects first: medicine for nausea or pain, and changes to the dose or schedule when needed.
- Gentle exercise, like walking. It is one of the best-proven ways to ease tiredness.
- Acupuncture: very thin needles. It eases nausea from chemotherapy, and helps with tiredness, pain, numb hands and feet, dry mouth after radiation, and hot flashes. It works well alongside your cancer care.
- Chinese herbs, prescribed for your pattern, to support appetite, digestion and energy. They are checked against every medicine and supplement you take, including your cancer drugs.
- Help with low mood, worry and sleep, which are common during cancer treatment.
How many visits
Usually once a week at first, timed around your treatments. Six to eight visits make a course; then you and Dr. Pan look at how much better you are: less nausea, more energy, less numbness.
